happy 2010

Well I sure am glad 2009 happened. I learned a lot about myself, drawing and comics in general. 2010 is going to be awesome for me. Not much in the way of resolutions, just going to try to stay the course and get stuff done. Twitter has been a great thing because I learned many things from many people, and it really helped to build contacts with others in the industry.

I hope you all have a bloody good time tonight, see you in the new year

aint dead yet

As always, things are busy in my house. The wife is on a crazy cleaning spree, the kids are getting stir crazy from being inside for so long and I'm trying to get some work done buy things aren't gelling. The new year has a few changes in store for me so I welcome the demise of 2k9 and have no fear for what tomorrow brings. As for the imagery and pictures lately, its all I got. The webcomic that was supposed to die doesn't seem ready to give up the fight.

Want more pics, find me on twitter and maybe you can see some additional sketches when I post them there. And now I rejoin the circus that is my life.

ending near the beginning

I'm sad to say that I have to stop my zombie webcomic. You probably didn't even know I had one, but I did, and you could read it here. I have been wanting to continue it but haven't been able to find the time. Life is harsh that way. It's all so sad. boohoo. boohoo.

theZOMBIE webcomic is no more.

santa's zombie elves

Santa never invested much in defense. Just a single shot shotgun. He better hope these guys are shufflers or he is Fk'd

It's a sketch that I wanted to go much further with, but because im a busy busy dad i will have to leave it as is otherwise no one will see it. Maybe i can get it done for next year.

Hopefully everyone is getting where they need to go safely, and having fun. Spread the infection along with good times.

needs speed lines

Just a quick sketch from the idea brewing inside my head. This would probably look better cleaned up, colored and with a zillion speed lines. I am so ready for this season to be over. As much fun as it is, it is also stressful and busy, or is that busy and stressful. Whichever way, it needs to stop. Have fun, go watch The Hangover and bust a gut.

4 sketches

Learning to use the wacom ... and getting better. The images are in order of first to last. The program im using is Sketchbook Pro ... and making a bunch of custom brushes so that it draws like real life.

practice

My brother is letting me use his wacom artZ II that he bought from his work place. It's over 10 years old, a little less developed in the pressure sensitivity department, but dammit, its 12 inches by 18 inches!!! It's so big I can put it on my lap and draw. So I'm relearning how to use a wacom and at the same time I am trying to paint, rather than draw. The above and below images are the result.

frustration

Just a quick little ditty to show my frustration at trying to get drawing and other work done while 3 kids are running around screaming and shouting and fighting. Singing songs like Jingle Poohs and other pooh and pee lyrics is not helping me type this.

deathmask

just a quickie doodle that is eventually going to develop into a comic. I don't know if it would be illustrated by me, since I have so many other things going on these days. But it will be awesome no matter who draws it.

Another post coming soon

shuffling along

Its been a hectic and busy last few days ... all because of a certain holiday that I will not mention here. I like this holiday for the family and presents and such, but I hate the commercialism of it and I'm not a big fan of the religous aspect either. Thats as much as I will say about that.

So yeah, busy times but I do have lots of drawings done that need to get scanned. Also making lots of progress using Paint Tool SAI and the Rise of the Zombie will be seeing a relaunch in the first week of y2k10. Fingers crossed.

brain eater shirt

Drawn during the same evening as yesterdays post, but colored with a bit more sleep, so the end result is a bit better. I've been learning a lot about coloring and keeping the value consistent. Still have a long way to go, but I'm getting there.

Now, for the rest of the day I will work on commisions. Anyone need some art? Contact me.

sleepwalker

I'm quite tired today that as hard as I tried I just couldn't get this image to the level I wanted it to go. I was up far to late last night watching star trek and drawing. The drawings were good, mostly brain storming, and it took a few hours of silence to finally get the layout for a logo nailed. But I am truely suffering for it today ... and I'm going to do it again tonight. Go Me !

hiding

A quick, and I mean REALLY quick, pencil sketch and coloring. I need to start working on scenery and multiple figures. This late night post brought to you by the NoName brand coffee, an eye opening gulp in every cup.

scrabble doodles

I am constantly drawing and doodling. It's a little bit annoying for my wife because she thinks I'm not paying attention. I am paying attention and have more than once demonstrated it, much to her disdain I think. I just can't stop doodling. The above image was drawn on a scrabble score card and a different piece of paper we were using to keep score on a different game. And in case any of you are thinking that I am being disrespectful or something, I was only drawing during intermissions like bathroom breaks or other interuptions.

My life is a constant interuption, but thats something else.

hand up

This is just a quick image I made a while back, and only just found because I spent the better part of today cleaning my studio/toy room. My studio ... the kids toy room. Thats what makes it hard to get work done, its noisy. Once they are older and can be left unattended, I'm moving my studio into the spare bedroom. Until then, I suffer.

Anyways, I've been busy building up some contacts and following some potential leads for illustration work. You might find my doodles behind rusted doors or locked up in some internet dungeon somewhere some day. I've also been making some improvements to my other site, IDRAWZOMBIES ... I added some new shirts today, so please take a look if you are in need of a zombie related shirt. I will have some of my own shirts available soon as well.

more sketch heads

Its a busy day today, and I want to keep the daily zombie daily, so today I am uploading some sketches that I did yesterday. The guy with the slinky arms IS a zombie so I am keeping with the theme. And who knows, I may be coloring one or two of these later on.

Today I am learning a new digital drawing program called Paint Tool SAI . It's similar to all the other art programs out there, but seems to be less of a RAM hog. Runs smooth, no complaints yet. I will try to have some drawings up here later today.

In other news ... its damn cold here and the snow is here to stay.
This is my front yard, this is my back yard.

that zombie woman

Remember this beauty? I posted her a few days back but just the line art. Well today I decided to try to paint her up and bring some added life to her. ( i know she's undead, but you know what I mean ) Took about an hour, with interuptions and the end result is okay. A good second attempt at this speed painting technique. Learned quite a bit so round 3 should be even better.

Before I do that though I have a couple of zombifications that need to be attended to. If you feel like getting zombified, I might be able to help.

coffee zombie - speed paint 1

Even a zombie needs their morning cup of coffee. The stronger the better, but no sugar please, just a bit of creamed brainjuice and they're good to go.

The image was just a doodle that I scanned in, then went to town trying to speed paint it. None of the original line drawing was kept, and it turned out pretty well. Im going to keep trying to create images with this technique.

premature balding

Even worse than male pattern baldness is premature baldness caused by a zombie ripping the hair and skin right off your head. No comb-over in the world is going to hide that.

This was scribbled over the weekend and colored over the last 2 days. The kids have been trying to steal my time away. They have been dealt with.

If you haven't seen it yet, take a look at idrawzombies and give me your thoughts. I will be improving it a lot in the coming weeks.

Clyde the malnourished zombie

He's a vegetarian...or rather feasts on only vegetarians.

This image came to us from my friend Mr. Anderson ... not from matrix fame. This is the talented George Anderson from Venture Comics. He did a guest spot here before and since getting his tablet he has really taken his art up a notch. He will soon be launching his own comic, you can check for updates at his site, Venture-Comics
. Thanks George.

Another post is coming tonight. Watch for it.

the biggest turkey

Well, at least the swedish chef thought so. Anyways, this is my american tribute to thanks giving. I celebrated mine last month, but didn't post anything. I did another zombie turkey for buyzombie.com, you should check it out for more goodness.

spilled guts

This is a quick doodle of a very determined zombie. He's got no legs, not much of a torso and to top it off his guts are stretched out behind him. Is that going to stop him? I DON'T THINK SO.

We could learn a lot from zombies. So much determination and single minded focus is something many of us lack. I know I do.

The image is a lunch time doodle that was quickly colored in photoshop, and was inspired by a book im reading called Z.E.O.: How to Get A(Head) in Business. It's a good read and while mostly made as a joke, there are a few lessons to be gleaned from it.

If you haven't heard by now, I DRAW ZOMBIES is online and ready to be viewed. A new zombification should be posted up there later today.

Allison's Zombie

My 6 year old drew this picture for me a week or so ago, and she has been bugging me to get it online for a while now. So here it is, in all its glory. Drawn with markers and nothing else. She even made a 4 page zombie comic that I will share sometime in the future. Just so you know, the red dots are dying flowers. Kids these days :) .

In other news, my newer site has pretty much gone live. There are still some bugs to work out, but its there and ready to be visited. For the most part it is a place to display my work, but there are also services that I offer and zombie related products to buy. Check it out, let me know what you think. Here's a screen shot. Click on the image to go to the new site, or visit idrawzombies.com

faces of death

There once was, and maybe still is, a video series called FACES OF DEATH. I watched a few of them over a decade ago and the images I saw have been forever seared in to my brain. I don't really recommend them and the only reason I bring it up is the image above made me think of it. Life's funny sometimes.

Anyways, the image above is 3 different days and 3 different yahtzee games. I think I won at least one of them, but I can't be sure. My wife wins a lot. At a later date I will probably take the girl image and color it in photoshop with the bamboo.

zombie mouse

come on ... sing with me.
Zed Oh Em Be Eye Eee .... Em Oh You Ess Eee ... Zombie Mouse!!! Zombie Mouse!!!
(sing it to the mickey mouse song and make up the rest of the lyrics as you go along.)

Just a quick doodle that I did last night while feeling a bit burned out from trying to get caught up in drawings and taking care of kids. Colored it in PS with the bamboo.

Monday I officially launch the new site and hopefully start work on a bunch of zombifications of famous and not famous figures.

sick sick sick

Its been a week that I wish never was, but am glad its over. My sweet little girl went to her sweet little school and brought home some not so sweet virus. Infected the whole family, including me. Messed up my legs something awful ... H1N1 ? Maybe ... H1Z1 more likely though. Today has been one of my first days back on the computer and in the mood for art. Should be seeing more soon.
Someone asked to see a non colored doodle, so here you go ... the above image, uncolored.

I need some new yahtzee pads.

got mail?

Through sleet or hail or zombification, the mail shall get through. Something like that. Those mail delivery people are tenacious.

The above image was created for my contact page on my new website which will hopefully launch today, but more likely tomorrow. Drawn with a pencil crayon and colored in photoshop.

zombie doodle

Dude stopped at the local gas bar to fill his car and damn if he did't get bit by some jackass. Sure he stomped the shizzle out of him but it was too late. The infection began and there is only one cure. He hurt his eye fighting with others over a small victims brains.

the wrong side of the fence

which side would you rather be on? This was just a quick doodle I did while playing yahtzee with my wife late at night. Brought it into PS to color it up for practice and the end result isn't terrible.

As a side note, the experts agree that if you have fence protecting you from a zombie invasion you should not shoot the zombies on the other side of the fence. They will just pile up and other zombies will crawl over them and into your protected area.

Food for thought.

shot in the head revisited

Its the same image as below, but I changed the direction of the grass. Is it an improvement or not? Let me know if you please. Thanks

all he needed was a shot in the head

and now he will stay dead. Rotting until there is nothing left but some happy bugs with tummies full of rotten meat. mmMMMmmmm.

It's been a while since I last updated but I have been busy building a new site to host all my zombies and showcase my few talents. I will try to release the whole site this week and continue to blog here.

I am also trying to revive my webcomic and host it under its own domain, but thats taking a bit longer. More updates when I can.

looking for love

in all the wrong places. Sure, its a really sad and lame joke that only a few people will get, but whatever. This poor shmuck doesn't care what you or anyone else thinks. Nope. He was on his way to visit his new girlfriend and celebrate their 3 month anniversary when he decided to be a good samaritan and help this old lady that looked like she got hit by a car. When he leaned over to see if she was okay she tried to bite him in the face. Her spit got in his eyes ... and you probably know the rest.

In other news, here is another cool looking zombie costume for halloween. This one would be awesome for my son. It really suits his build. Maybe in a few years I could convince him to wear it. This year he wants to be spiderman. Still cool, but seriously. A zombie child in a small rural town with a heavy religous slant. This would rock. Click the image to learn more about it or buy it for your child with a desire to scare other kids shitless.

eye spy

Ever have the feeling you're being watched? What if the watcher suddenly jumped out of the shadows, chased you down, ripped open your chest and ate your heart? That would be a bad day. That's also the reason that I don't go out much late at night. Very rarely, and usually only to let the dog pee.

Continuing with the promotion of zombie costumes, here's another one that I like. A punk rock zombie ready to eat your brains. This one would go over lovely in this bible belt area that I live in. This one comes with a spiked Mohawk 1/2 mask, a leather looking jacket with boney bloody ribcage, collar and spiked cuffs. Click the image to get more details.

against the wall

I've been slacking in my zombie drawing lately, but i have been learning lots about the tablet. This isn't my best work, but by saving it as a gif and messing with the color palette it turned out alright. New post tomorrow if all goes well.

Also, I am going to be promoting some costumes for people wanting to be a zombie for halloween. I've come across an awesome site that has great costumes, so check it out.

Skeleton Zombie Adult Costume
This is the first zombie costume that I saw when browsing the site. Me and my wife joked about how this would scare the hell out of the kids when we volunteer to help at the school on Halloween party day. They would never ask us back.

This Skeleton Zombie Costume features a skeleton mask with gauze, a shirt and pants with gauze and bones. Gloves are also included and its a decent price too. Click the image to get more details.

becoming man

This was drawn with crappy markers on crappy paper, then saved by bringing it into photoshop and painting it up. Its not a great image, but its the first thing I thought of after reading a story by this fellow named Liban. If he agrees, I'll link it up.

just an edit to say here is the link to the story that inspired the image.

But its not a zombie ... yeah, but its my blog, so plbbbt! (
